Accommodation
New Zealand offers a wide variety of types of accommodation facilities, ranging from cheap cabins to luxurious hotels. We are able to book any of these facilities for you.During summer (December - February), we recommend making sure that you book your desired accommodation in time, especially if you are interested in the best located hotels (in attractive locations) or in lower prices. The same is true for the winter ski season (July - September) in the mountain regions of Queenstown, Wanaka or the Tongariro National Park.
Types of Accommodation
Camps
They are usually referred to as holiday parks, with complete but usually shared facilities - sanitary facilities and a kitchen; in some camps there is also a community room. You can always reach these camps by car or caravan (the fee per person is around 10-12 NZD). They often offer cabins for accommodation; the cabins are usually austere, only with a bed or a bunk bed. At higher price levels, the holiday parks also offer fully furnished bungalows in the style of a vacation apartment (each bungalow has its own sanitary facilities and a kitchen).
Backpackers
Accommodation in the style of well-known youth hostels. They are intended mainly for young independent travellers. The standard of this accommodation greatly varies. The YHA network offers a somewhat higher quality.
The prices start from 20 NZD/night/person (single or double rooms or rooms with more beds and with shared sanitary facilities).
Motels
The most widespread type of accommodation - there is at least a double bed; often there is a ground-floor family suite with two or more bedrooms. A shower and WC are a matter of course; there is usually a kitchenette or an open kitchen; sometimes only with a tea kettle and a toaster. In some accommodation facilities of this type, breakfast is offered (subject to order; it is usually not included in the price and costs around 10-20 NZD); occasionally, there is also half-board available. Prices start from 100 NZD/night/2 persons.
Suites
Accommodation in the style of a fully furnished family apartment/vacation house; suitable for a several-day stay in one location. It is presumed that you will cook for yourselves. Prices start from 120 NZD/night/2 persons.
Hotels
You can find them in every larger town and in tourist centres. They differ from motels by the absence of a kitchenette or an open kitchen; they provide the full and usual hotel services. There is a tea kettle and a toaster in the room. Breakfast is either included in price or it is available for an extra fee. Often, one can have half-board for extra money; in most cases, the possibility to eat in the hotel restaurant is offered.
Prices start from 120 NZD/night/2 persons.
If you are looking for a greater comfort and/or prestigious accommodation, you can find a broad selection of accommodation options at prices starting from 150 NZD/2 persons. Each accommodation facility is usually based on a somewhat different concept but they always have at least one of these characteristics:
- an exceptional or attractive location - a remote farm, a peninsula, the border of the bush or a prestigious location on an embankment in the city centre
- excellent services and better-than-standard furnishing
- an offer of interesting or exceptional activities and services
Vacation houses, suites - long-term, several-month stay
Some of you may come to NZ for a long-term stay, for example to work or study here, sometimes even with your entire family. If that is the case, then renting an apartment or a house is the advisable solution. With this service, welcomed by families with children or people requiring privacy, we have rich experience, too. According to the current offer of properties to let, we will mediate and ensure suitable housing for you in advance. In this case, we really recommend contacting us in time so that your ideas could be made clear in time and so that we could outline the possibilities of the local property market depending on the location concerned.
Internet Connection
Some motels and hotels offer broadband Internet connection to laptop owners. For dial-up connection, a telephone line can be used, which is usually a matter of course in most motels. Internet kiosks are very widespread; they are used to receive and write e-mail messages and to surf on the Internet.
